Okta doesn’t offer native full tenant backups or granular recovery for many data types. This places risk on the identity management infrastructure for the organization.

Rewind brings automated off-site backups that mitigate human error, malicious incidents, and configuration drift, and help support compliance by preserving critical configuration data.

Rewind Backups for Okta is an early access integration that connects Rewind’s automated backup solution to your Okta tenant.

Key Features

  • Automated & on-demand backups
Performs scheduled daily backups (every 24 hours) with the flexibility to trigger instant manual backups whenever needed via the Rewind vault
  • Data coverage
Backups include core Okta components: users, identity providers, groups & group rules, applications and related credentials, and authentication policies.
  • Export support
You can export full data snapshots directly from Rewind. While backup is supported, restore functionality is not yet offered for Okta.

High-level steps to configure Okta backups in Rewind :

1. Add Rewind Integration in the Okta tenant.

Okta Tenant > Security > API Service Integration

2.Log in to Rewind and add Okta integration

3. Select the Data region to store the backup.

4. Rewind will start automatically to back up the Okta objects.

    5. Once completed, you can see the last backup data with the timestamp.

    6. Click in your Okta tenant and select All items to explore the backed objects.

    7. You will receive a backup summary for your Okta tenant at the registered email address.

In today’s identity-driven security landscape, the lack of native backup and recovery capabilities in Okta poses a significant operational and compliance risk. For any organization that views identity as a core security pillar, implementing an off-site backup strategy is a smart step toward operational maturity and business continuity.
