Identity management for mobile CSPs: a key to unlocking revenue in digital economy
Mobile identity management (IdM) – creation, management, verification, security and exposure of unified, 360 degree user identities across mobile services, devices and third-party partners- is gaining significant importance as mobile devices are rapidly becoming consumers’ primary channel for accessing to all digital services. Major over-the-top (OTT) and digital ecosystem providers successfully positioned themselves as identity service providers, e.g. Apple Touch ID and social logins from Facebook, Google and Twitter, and they are dominating the collection, management and monetisation of mobile user identities. By contrast, mobile IdM is not a priority for CSPs today despite their distinct advantages over OTTs and alternative service providers because most do not understand its importance to attacking the wider opportunity for digital economy service offerings, or the business models and technical approaches required for its implementation. This article identifies the key mobile IdM market opportunities for CSPs to create new digital economy revenue streams.
