Lachlan McKenzie, ANZ Manager for Centrify, the leader in securing enterprise identities against cyberthreats, has warned that many Australian and New Zealand companies risk their IT security by over-relying on passwords.<\/p>\n
Mr. McKenzie, who joined Centrify in July 2015, said the most disturbing observation of his first year in the job, was the blind faith businesses placed in passwords. \u201cThe fact is that compromised credentials are the leading attack vector for data breaches globally,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne problem is that people are lazy at creating effective passwords. Because we\u2019re expected to remember them, many people choose passwords that are easy to recall \u2013 to a ludicrous degree. Recent hacks reveal the most popular passwords include 123456, qwerty and, of course, password.<\/p>\n
\u201cPasswords also fail due to poor security habits, such as password sharing. Although we\u2019re all warned not to share our passwords with family members or colleagues, people continue to do it.<\/p>\n
